Our story

About Rose's Garden

Nearly twenty years ago, Rosa E. Menjivar Peña began her life in care the way so many caregivers do: working in other people's care homes, helping someone start their morning, sitting with them through a hard night, and learning not just their needs but their names, their stories and what made them smile. Later she worked in day programs, and with every year one dream grew stronger. She wanted a home of her own, a place where every person would be cared for the way she would care for her own family.

That dream did not come true alone. Her son, Ricardo Menjivar, believed in it as deeply as she did and worked beside her to open the very first Rose's Garden home. Her husband stood with her every step of the way, and her daughter, Rosa Elena, gave her heart and her hands to help it happen. Ricardo is no longer with us, but he is part of every Rose's Garden home. The doors he helped open are still open, and the care he believed in lives on in every person we welcome.

From that first home, Rosa set a standard of care that our family has never let slip: patient, personal and constant. Today, when someone in our community meets a person who lives with us, they know it right away. That person comes from a Rose's Garden home. We are proud of that, because it means the people we support are seen, respected and truly cared for.

Rose's Garden is still fully family operated. The people behind every home are the same family who started it all, and the people who live with us become part of that family too. We share meals, celebrate milestones, and show up for one another on the good days and the hard ones. Like the garden it is named for, it grew from one small seed, planted with love and tended every single day.

Every home is licensed by California Community Care Licensing and works with the Regional Center of the East Bay. Our teams follow person-centered planning and the HCBS Final Rule, so the people we support live with dignity, privacy and real choice.
